At Truro School Prep, our learning extends well beyond the classroom walls. This term, pupils in Years 3 and 4 will step off-timetable on Monday afternoons, while Years 5 and 6 will do the same on Thursdays, to take part in our exciting weekly activity programme.
Designed to encourage exploration, teamwork, and personal growth, these sessions give children the chance to immerse themselves in a diverse range of activities, including kayaking, bushcraft, cookery, cycling, chess, dance, first aid, lifesaving, and jujitsu.
The programme is carefully planned to nurture both individual talents and group cohesion. Whether a child is discovering a new passion for chess or building confidence in the water, these co-curricular opportunities allow them to develop soft skills such as resilience, creativity, and problem-solving. Working together in mixed groups also helps pupils strengthen friendships, build trust, and support one another, fostering a strong sense of belonging within their year groups.
The term’s activities will launch with walks around Cornwall’s beautiful landscapes, including St Anthony’s Head and St Agnes Beacon. These trips allow our pupils to make the most of our enviable setting, whilst learning about Cornwall’s unique history and environment. Shared outdoor experiences like these help children bond as a year group, laying the foundation for collaboration and teamwork throughout the year.
In this, our Year of Confidence, these activities allow our pupils to gain more than just new hobbies. Our co-curricular programme allows them to develop leadership skills, challenge themselves personally and create lasting memories.
