Truro School is one of the most vibrant and busy music departments in the country.
One of the top places to study music in the South West
With 60 varied concerts each year, Truro School offers pupils numerous opportunities, to rehearse, perform and develop. A third of the school takes individual instrumental or vocal lessons each week from 30 of the county’s top specialist teachers.
Many pupils play in County and National ensembles including:
- The South West Youth Orchestra
- The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain
- The National Youth Choirs of Great Britain
Students at Truro School are surrounded by other high-achieving musicians and, in the last academic year, 13 pupils passed their Grade 8 ABRSM exams with Distinctions and 2 pupils gained their DipABRSM diplomas. Regular masterclasses and workshops also take place with the country’s top performers.
“With over 15 different choirs, orchestras and ensembles, and a huge variety of concerts throughout the year, I found I was always able to do exactly what I wanted to do, whether it be classical, jazz, musicals, or even song-writing. Not only have I had the amazing experience of soloing in Truro Cathedral and the Hall for Cornwall, but I was also given the chance to professionally record a CD of six of my original songs! There has never been a dull day in the Music Department during my time at Truro School…” – Tegan
