First Steps Towards Ten Tors

Pupils and students from across different year groups took part in the walk along the south coast, showing fantastic determination and teamwork throughout the route. With plenty of ups and downs (those steps!), the walk was certainly a challenge – but it also offered some of the most stunning scenery along the way.

Organised by the British Army’s Headquarters South West, the Ten Tors Challenge is a renowned outdoor expedition held annually on Dartmoor. Teams of students must navigate across the northern half of the moor, trekking distances of 35, 45, or 55 miles over two days while carrying all their own equipment and camping overnight. It’s a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop resilience, navigation skills, and camaraderie – and this first training walk marks the beginning of an exciting journey ahead!

Our Outdoor Pursuits Programme is a key component of Truro School’s curriculum, providing pupils and students with a wide range of outdoor education and adventure opportunities. The programme includes numerous expeditions and challenges, one of which is the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, in which over a hundred students successfully achieve awards each year.
