Mending Minds in Sixth Form Psychology

Sixth Form Psychology students have been learning about plasticity and functional recovery from trauma.

To help illustrate how the brain responds to trauma, participants were tasked with solving a challenging theoretical mathematical problem. However, to do so, they needed to go to a designated department area that would provide the necessary equipment or skills to help them solve it. Fellow pupils were placed at different locations to represent ‘trauma’ that the pupils had to navigate around, making the task more challenging.

This applied task helped to illustrate how our brains respond to trauma, whilst taking learning out of the classroom and into new environments and with practical demonstrations and student involvement.

Thank you to Mrs Thurlow for another stimulating class for our Year 12 students.
