Year 6 ‘In Safe Hands’

As a part of their Year 6 Diploma, our pupils take part in first aid sessions led by our Medical Care Lead, Mrs Cameron. Pupils from 6AW were able to take their learning a step further, thanks to the generous support of ‘In Safe Hands Health & Safety Training Consultancy’, as they took part in a child-friendly immersive first-aid experience.

Upon arrival, the In Safe Hands instructors discussed with the children what they had learnt in their lessons with Mrs Cameron. Pupils were then split into groups to act out scenarios and put their learning into practice in this unique training environment.

Pupils were able to perform CPR using dummies, learnt how to use EPI pens, performed abdominal thrusts, and put patients into the recovery position. Pupils worked together in teams, working on each other and adult, child and baby dummies, under the careful supervision of their teachers and the In Safe Hands team.

Mrs Cameron said, “We were excited to be invited to attend the session at In Safe Hands immersive learning centre. The building is set out to give a more realistic feel of when you may need to carry out first aid. They have a kitchen, bathroom, and even a real car in there! We will be making three visits this year, one for each Year 6 form”.

A huge thank you to In Safe Hands for their time and effort in making this such a very worthwhile and positive experience. Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed the morning and have taken away valuable knowledge. All pupils were an asset to the school, listening, participating and helping each other throughout the experience.
