Year 8 Science Fair Finalists Impress Judges

Year 8 pupils showcased their ingenuity and scientific curiosity this week as Science Fair finalists presented their projects to a panel of judges. The standard of work was exceptionally high, making it a challenging task to select finalists from such a strong field.

Judges were highly impressed by both the creativity of the ideas and the confidence with which students discussed their findings. Projects explored a wide range of topics, from exploring thermodynamics in the kitchen, to investigating whether proprioception declines with age using an “invisible hand” experiment or examining what happens when you add different substances to slime and testing the effectiveness of various soaps by cultivating bacterial colonies in petri dishes.

Mrs Chanter said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to see the Year 8 pupils develop their Science Fair projects this term. I know the teachers found it really difficult to select the finalists as there were so many impressive projects this year. A special well done to the finalists who discussed their projects enthusiastically with our judges, who were very impressed with the calibre of the work the students produced. Well done, Year 8!”

Finalists spoke passionately about their work, responding thoughtfully to the judges’ questions and showcasing the depth of their understanding.

Winners will be announced at the next Head of Year Assembly.

A huge thank you goes to the Chemistry department for inspiring and supporting these remarkable projects, as well as to our visiting judges for their thoughtful questioning. Finally, well done to all Year 8 pupils for producing such fantastic work.
