Year 6 Diploma Activities Begin

This week, our Year 6 pupils began their programme of Activities, forming part of their Year 6 Diploma, which brings together the knowledge and skills pupils have developed throughout their time at Truro Prep as they begin their final year.

Spanning academic study, creative expression, physical development and essential life skills, the Diploma sees pupils undertake independent projects and engage in practical learning that prepares them for the demands of Senior School and beyond, with first aid and cookery among the practical life skills woven into the curriculum.

Yesterday’s sessions reflected that breadth perfectly, pairing cookery and dance with jujitsu and first aid, all led by professionals in their fields. In first aid, pupils combined theory with hands-on practice as they learned the recovery position, developing skills that could genuinely make a difference in an emergency.

Meanwhile, in a session led by Mark from Resolute BJJ, our Year 6s explored the fundamentals of jujitsu, with a particular focus on safety: learning how to protect themselves by guarding their back and neck when facing an opponent.

Dance, led by Miss Olivia from Cornwall Dance School, and cookery rounded out the day’s varied programme. Across every session, pupils built practical knowledge, faced new physical and mental challenges, and grew in confidence and independence, exactly the blend of skills the Diploma is designed to nurture as they prepare for the next stage of their education.
