Year 5 Pupils from Across Cornwall Explore Maths Magic

Last weekend marked the launch of our Year 5 Maths Masterclasses, with over 50 pupils from primary schools across Cornwall joining us at the Senior School for a morning of discovery, challenge, and fun.

Warmly welcomed by our Head of Maths, Mr Butterworth, and the wider Maths department, the young mathematicians explored the fascinating world of probability. Through engaging sessions, they discovered all about Pascal’s Triangle, Expected Values and Combinations. The children even ended up calculating the expected probability of winning the lottery, a revelation that may not prompt their parents to rush out and buy a ticket anytime soon!

It was a joy to see such enthusiasm as pupils made new friends and uncovered the wonders of maths together. Two more masterclasses are scheduled for later this term, where the focus will shift to The Möbius Strip and Tactics in Games, we can’t wait to welcome them back.
