Year 4 at Truro School Prep have been diving into the fascinating world of sound, discovering how vibrations travel through different materials. The lesson brought science to life as pupils built string telephones, experimenting with how clearly sound waves can travel through a simple piece of string. They also uncovered how much louder and clearer sounds become when transmitted through solids.
With plenty of room for creativity, the children were eager to push the experiment further. Several groups decided to link multiple string phones together, engineering their own mini communications network. The moment their homemade ‘conference call’ worked was met with cheers of excitement and was a brilliant example of curiosity, confidence, and hands-on learning in action!
