Year 4 Explore the Farm and Country Show

Our Year 4 pupils enjoyed an exciting and memorable visit to the Farm and Country Day at the Royal Cornwall Showground.

Truro School is proudly Cornish, and the trip gave pupils first-hand insight into the vital role farming plays in our local community and deepened their understanding of where food comes from and the traditions that sustain rural life across our county.

During the visit, the children joined other primary schools from across Cornwall for a hands-on day of discovery. They explored a wide range of farming activities, learning about milking processes, animal feed production, and how everyday foods such as eggs, cheese, bread and ice cream are produced, bringing the journey from farm to fork to life.

There was plenty of opportunity for pupils to get involved, with activities including making Cornish pasties and eggy bread, both firm favourites and highlights of the day.

A particularly exciting aspect of the trip was the chance to meet a variety of farm animals up close. Pupils encountered pigs and piglets, sheep and lambs, goats, cows and calves, and even a very impressive giant bull named Norman, who proved to be a memorable and very gentle character.

Beyond the fun and excitement, the trip reinforced the importance of us celebrating Cornwall’s rich heritage and recognising the essential role of farming within the local community. Experiences like these help foster a sense of appreciation and respect for the land, the people who work it, and the traditions that continue to shape life in Cornwall today.

It was a truly wonderful educational experience, and the children represented the school with enthusiasm and curiosity throughout. Well done, Year 4!
