It has been another busy week at Truro School Pre-Prep, with pupils from Nursery through to Year 2 enjoying a wide range of learning experiences.
In Nursery, the children have continued their exploration of lifecycles, focusing on cats and building on their understanding by adding labels to their diagrams. They practised sounding out words, and some even began writing the sounds in “kitten,” “cat”, and “old cat.”
The learning then extended to plants, as the children explored the lifecycle of cress. They planted their own seeds and discussed what plants need to grow. The children also investigated cress using their senses, and were fascinated by the roots, with some noticing they looked like string. It has also been a special week as Nursery welcomed new friends who will be joining after Easter, enjoying time playing and sharing stories.
In Reception, the children have been learning all about the human body, thinking of it as a machine. They explored both the digestive and circulatory systems, developing their understanding of how the body works. In literacy, they have been writing sentences about different parts of the body and explaining the important jobs they do.
Year 1 has continued their exciting work in science by experimenting with magnets. They explored how poles attract and repel, created paperclip race tracks and observed how magnets can move iron filings. In literacy, the children have been imagining life at Lanhydrock House, using their historical understanding to write diary entries from the perspective of either a servant or a child, demonstrating empathy and creativity in their writing.
In Year 2, pupils have been finishing their retelling of Baba Yaga, adding creative embellishments to enrich their narratives. It has also been an active week, with children taking part in cross country and football fixtures. In maths, they have been consolidating their knowledge of money, strengthening their confidence in recognising and using different values.
It has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm, curiosity and teamwork across the Pre-Prep this week, with every year group embracing new challenges and opportunities to learn.
