Weekly News from Pre-Prep 27.02.26

It has been another busy and exciting week in Pre-Prep at Truro School, with plenty of learning, discovery and special moments across all year groups.

In Nursery, the children have continued their much-loved animal topic, with plans to begin exploring growing and lifecycles as the term unfolds. Making the most of the seasonal change, the class ventured out on a walk to spot the early signs of spring. Along the way, they examined fallen trees and took a closer look at their roots, sparking thoughtful discussion and about the natural world around them.

Reception has had an equally lively week. In maths, the children have been using practical objects to explore doubling numbers, applying their learning to real-life contexts, including the exciting news that our fish population has nearly doubled with the arrival of two new babies! The children have named them Mary and Donkey, and they are already treasured members of the classroom. In literacy, Reception have been enjoying the story of The Three Little Pigs, using their phonics skills to write descriptions of the characters and thinking carefully about what each pig might have looked like.

Year 1 have been busy developing their writing skills by sharing holiday news and composing diary entries. They have worked particularly hard on remembering capital letters and full stops to ensure their writing is clear and accurate. In their topic work, pupils have been learning about the Victorian inventor Alexander Graham Bell and discovering how he invented the first telephone, sparking great interest in how communication has changed over time.

Our Year 2 mathematicians have been building confidence with column addition and subtraction, including learning how to borrow tens to solve double-digit calculations. It has been wonderful to see their growing independence and determination. As part of their transition into Key Stage 2, the children also enjoyed visiting their reading buddies in their classrooms at Prep School, an exciting step that helped them feel confident and connected as they look ahead to the next stage of their school journey.
