Weekly News from Pre-Prep 21.11.25

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Truro School Prep. After our fantastic Early Years Open Morning on Saturday, our staff and pupils returned to school full of festive cheer.

Our Nursery children have been busy practising for our Christmas performance, learning the songs and practising how to get on and off the stage safely. With a circus theme to their performance, they have been practising their skills such as walking the tightrope and juggling. They have also had a lovely time in the woods. We experimented a lot with the mud! We worked with Mrs Stableforth investigating our bug bunkers for their monthly check. It is part of the ‘Buzz Club’, which is trying to see what mini beasts hibernate. We found lots of woodlice, millipedes, slugs and snails.

This week, Reception has been talking about cats and how they are different to dogs. We have discussed the different breeds of cats and shared stories of our own pet cats. In maths, we have been focusing on how to write numbers and identify odd and even numbers. Rev Helen popped into our classroom to help with our Religious Studies lessons and taught us the Nativity Story using ‘Godly Play’ puppets.

This week in science, Year 1 pupils have been learning about how animals are adapted to their diets. We have examined the teeth from a herbivore and a carnivore and identified the differences. In art this week, we are using watercolours to paint a habitat. We had to think carefully about which colours to use to reflect the environment, as well as which animals live there. Along with our Year 2 peers, we have been busy rehearsing for our Christmas performance and learning the songs and words.

In literacy this week, Year 2 pupils have been writing their own Ting Tinga tales. We have had to think carefully about what characters we would like to use and design a story structure. We have continued our studies of the Roman Empire this week by exploring the lasting legacy the Romans left behind, including how they influenced the names of our towns and cities.
