As the first half of the Spring Term draws to a close, our youngest pupils have been busier than ever in our Truro School Pre-Prep.
Our lucky Nursery children have spent lots of time outside, enjoying our newest outdoor play area, our Wild Garden. They helped to create Sam the Scarecrow, having found sticks for his arms in the Enchanted Garden. Pupils have been learning about how plants grow and have planted some sweetcorn seeds.
In Reception, pupils have been thinking about what different dinosaurs might each and created their own dinosaur soup in literacy. Pupils used their phonics to write down some of the ingredients. In maths, they have been using Cuisenaire rods to make visual representations of number bonds to ten. Despite a busy week, pupils managed to find some time for their weekly yoga sessions too.
In literacy, our Year 1 pupils have been practising handwriting and recapping previous learning on vowels and consonants. In maths, they have been learning number bonds to 20 using bar models. As a fun way to improve fine motor skills, all of the children created card animals attached to a string and a wooden handle. They really enjoyed winding the string up and ‘racing’ their animals back to them.
In Forest School, Year 2 pupils have been using the storm kettle to make warming cups of honey water, and tea for the teachers. We have also been working hard on building dens and bird hides. They have also been learning about multiplication in maths, and continuing to write our Little Red Riding Hood stories in Literacy, adding adjectives, verbs, adverbs and speech marks. They have also been working hard on their artwork, which will be added to the display in the Pre-Prep Assembly Hall.
