Weekly News from Pre-Prep 06.03.26

There have been celebrations and learning galore in Pre-Prep this week.

After sharing their swimming skills with their parents, the children in Nursery have been enjoying a range of Cornish activities as part of the celebrations for St Piran’s Day. Mrs Nixon has been creating some fantastic animal artwork with the children, inspired by the work of local artist Tabby Booth, and the results have been wonderful to see. The children also tried their hand at making a jam pasty. They rolled out the pastry, cut it into circles with a cutter, carefully spread the jam, and even practised crimping the edges like real bakers.

In Reception, the children have been exploring numbers in maths, looking closely at the relationship between odd and even numbers and investigating how we can halve and double them. As part of the St Piran’s Day celebrations, the class discussed what a legend is before retelling the story of Saint Piran. They really enjoyed learning about who he was and why he is such an important figure in Cornwall.

Year 1 has been busy experimenting in science, testing a variety of bridge designs to discover which structure is the strongest and which can hold the most cubes. In literacy, the children have been focusing on improving their sentence structure and adding more detail to their writing by using adjectives to make their sentences more interesting and descriptive.

Year 2 have been developing their tennis skills in PE, practising how to control the ball more carefully while improving their coordination and accuracy. Meanwhile, as part of their topic on space, the children explored a creative approach to art by using marbling inks to design their own artistic interpretations of the planets, producing some vibrant and imaginative results.
