Truro School is celebrating after success at this year’s Rotary Club of Truro Boascawen Youth Speaks 2026 Junior Competition for the Truro Area, following a closely contested first round and an impressive final performance.
During the heats, our Year 6 pupils demonstrated an extremely high standard, with teams speaking passionately and persuasively on a wide range of thought-provoking topics. These included ‘Are we alone?’, ‘How travel broadens the mind’, and ‘Winning More, Earning Less: the inequality facing England’s women athletes’. Each team demonstrated confidence, clarity and a willingness to engage with complex ideas.
From this strong field, our finalist team of Audrey (Chairman), Evelyn (Speaker) and Samuel (Vote of Thanks) was selected to represent Truro School. During the final, confidence and courage shone as Evelyn delivered a compelling speech on the winning topic, ‘Think from your mind, not from your screen’. The teamwork and clear communication impressed the judges and saw them bring home the win.
This achievement means the team will now go on to compete in the Area Junior Competition in Penzance later this year, and we wish them every success as they take the next step in the competition.
Huge congratulations go to all pupils who took part, as well as to the staff involved in preparing the teams. Our thanks also go to the Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen, to all of the schools who came along to the competition and to the pupils and their families for their hard work and dedication.
