Sporting Round Up 24.01.25

It’s been another action-packed week of sport for Truro School, with teams and individuals excelling across a variety of competitions.

Congratulations to the 1st XV Rugby side for clinching the plate competition at the annual Mount Kelly 10’s tournament. The team showcased their flair for running rugby, winning three out of five games, and saving their best performance for a decisive 29-5 victory over Callywith in the final.

Monday saw Truro School host Penair School and Torpoint Community College for the county round of the National Schools Badminton Championships. It was a fantastic day filled with exceptional play. Huge congratulations to all teams, who played really well across all age groups to secure a place in the regional finals at Bath University in March!

a number of our pupils competed in the Cornwall Schools Cross Country Championships, held at Truro School. We are still waiting for the official results but there were some brilliant individual performances, and we are incredibly proud of all our runners who took part.

Huge congratulations to Aria, who finished 1st in the U14 competition – an outstanding achievement, especially as she was a year younger than many of her competitors. Also well done to Kenny, who was awarded the prestigious John Knowles Special Award Trophy in recognition of his dedication to cross country and the fantastic attitude he has demonstrated over the years.

A massive well done to Dan for his recent sporting successes! He finished 25th overall and 10th in the U15 category at the South West Regional County Cross Country Championships. Dan has also qualified for the National Biathlon Finals in March at Millfield, achieving the 6th highest points score in his age group. Good luck, Dan!

The 1st Year girls continue to impress in their rugby lessons, building confidence and developing contact skills. Plenty of smiles, hard work, and crunching hits left the tackle shields taking a beating. Well done, girls!

Our netball teams have been busy representing Truro School in numerous netball fixtures and tournaments over the past two weeks. The U13s had a brilliant first group round in last week’s County Netball Tournament, placing sixth place overall. Thank you to Miss Davies and Mrs Mulready for coaching and taking the team.

On Saturday all year groups travelled to Shebbear College to play in a triangular fixture against Shebbear and West Buckland School.
U12 played a close game against Shebbear to miss out on a win by only 2 goals! The U13s carried on the success from Friday and achieved 2 wins, 9-3 and 10 – 5, with the U14 team followed suit with 2 wins, 12-6 and 15-3.

The U15 took a win against Shebbear in a closely contested game and narrowly lost to West Buckland in their 2nd game. With only one game to play against West Buckland, our U16 girls worked hard to pull through a lead of 18-12 in the last quarter. And finally, the U18s secured a win against Shebbear and a loss against West Buckland, two fantastic matches to prepare themselves for Regional finals in February.

A huge congratulations to Truro School’s U16 football team, who delivered an outstanding performance to secure their place in the County Cup Finals. Playing on home turf in front of a supportive crowd, the boys showcased exceptional skill and teamwork against a strong Redruth team.

Well done to all teams and players for their commitment and effort this week – bring on the next round of competitions!
