Sixth Form Subject Breakfasts

A-Level selection can be a daunting and stressful process for Year 11 pupils. Alongside their GCSE studies, they are also required to look ahead and select the right subjects for their future study and career paths. At Truro School, we understand the significance of the transition from GCSE to Sixth Form and put in place an array of opportunities to help make these key decisions as smooth a process as possible.

Fresh from our Sixth Form Open Evening, our current Year 11 pupils are making the most of our weekly A-Level Subject Breakfasts. Led by our Senior Prefect and Subject Prefect teams, these breakfasts are an opportunity for pupils to find out more about what each A-Level subject looks like in reality. Informal, insightful and student-led, they are an invaluable chance for our Year 11 pupils to really start to explore academic expectations, core curriculum and outcomes.

With Chemistry on the breakfast menu today, our current cohort of A-Level chemists shared what makes this subject so special at Truro School. Our 2025 A-Level results were outstanding, with 26% of our pupils achieving the highest A* grade (vs just 9% nationally) and 79% achieving A*/A (vs just 31% nationally).

Our ALPS score of 1 for A-Level Chemistry (the difference between the actual A-Level grades achieved and the expected grades based on their prior attainment) puts Truro School in the top 5% of providers for this subject nationally and is a reflection of the incredible teaching and support that the Sixth Form at Truro School provides for our students.
