Sixth Form Students Learn Lifesaving Skills

Our Sixth Form students had the opportunity to hear insights and experiences from members of our school community who volunteer with the RNLI and HM Coastguard. Our Deputy Head Boy, Harry, who volunteers as a lifeguard, Mr Meads, a Coastguard volunteer, and another member of staff who serves with the RNLI, spoke to students about the vital work carried out by these lifesaving organisations.

The session began with an engaging talk introducing the roles of the RNLI and HM Coastguard, emphasising the importance of teamwork, quick thinking, and safety awareness. Students then put their knowledge to the test with a first aid quiz, which sparked lively discussion and friendly competition. After reviewing the answers together, they took what they had learned into the classrooms for hands-on practice. This included bandaging a wound and placing someone in the recovery position, giving students practical experience in essential lifesaving techniques.

It was a valuable and engaging session that offered students meaningful insight into emergency response, safety awareness, and the crucial role the RNLI and HM Coastguard play in keeping our communities safe.
