Truro School Prep hosted its much-loved annual Summer Concert, bringing together pupils, staff and their families in a celebration of music, creativity and collaboration.
The afternoon began with an energetic Samba performance from Years 3 and 4, directed by Steve Weeks, setting a lively tone for the programme.
A series of House performances followed, each embracing the spirit of traditional sea shanties: School House performed Haul Away Joe, Smith House sang The Wellerman, Vinter House delivered Roll the Chariot Along, and Wickett House rounded off the set with South Australia. These rousing performances had the audience tapping along and captured a wonderful sense of teamwork, Cornish pride and the Truro School House spirit.
The concert also showcased the breadth of ensemble music at Prep. The orchestra impressed with a confident and polished performance, while two choirs, a Years 3–5 choir and the Chamber Choir of Years 5 and 6 pupils, demonstrated both warmth and precision in their singing. The Brass Group, under the direction of Alan Pope, added further depth to the programme with a spirited performance.
Year 4 pupils delighted the audience with their Prep Folk groups, performing two traditional folk pieces with great musicality and charm. A particular highlight of the afternoon was the debut performance of The Rolling Raccoons, whose members have only recently begun learning their instruments, some especially for this concert, making their accomplished and enthusiastic performance all the more impressive.
The concert concluded with the entire school coming together for a heartfelt rendition of Harry’s Song for Cornwall, providing a memorable and uplifting finale.
The Prep Summer Concert was a joyful and inspiring celebration of music at Truro School, showcasing not only the pupils’ developing skills but also their confidence, commitment and enjoyment.
We extend our sincere thanks to all staff involved in making the event possible and for their continued dedication to nurturing a love of music in every pupil. Special thanks to Ms Angela Renshaw and to the band accompanying the concert, featuring Matt Douglas, Stuart MacQuarrie, Tom Holland, Steve Weeks, Alan Pope and Rebecca Brenton, whose support helped bring the performances to life.
