Prep Sports Round Up 22.05.26

It has been another busy week for sport at Truro School Prep, with successes in fencing and on the athletics field.

In fencing, Malhar S & Percy J made the journey to Millfield Prep for the U11 IAPS Fencing Championships last Friday, and what a great job they did.

Percy was up first, competing against 16 other U11 boys from schools such as Millfield Prep, Aldwickbury & Beechwood Park. He made a fantastic start to his matches within the pool stages, winning 8 of his 9 matches with his only loss coming against the fencer who ended the day in 3rd place overall (Percy actually beat him in the repeat match during the pool stages too). In a closely fought last-16 match, Percy unfortunately came up just short, losing 12-9, but fenced so well throughout the day and should be very proud of the way he performed.

Malhar progressed through her pool stages unbeaten, before winning her semi-final 12-5, fencing with confidence and quality. The final was a similar affair, and Malhar came out on top 12-6 to be crowned U11 Women’s Sabre IAPS Champion for 2026; what an achievement! She remained calm and composed throughout and fully deserved the accolade.

Many thanks to Malhar’s and Percy’s parents for their help throughout the day, and roll on 2027.

In athletics, 64 children from Years 3 to 6 had the opportunity to run, throw and jump in a carousel of athletic events at Polwhele House. Held over two days, events were arranged by year group, and everyone took part in a sprint, a 150m, the vortex throw and the long jump. Some children also ran the 600m and a 4 x 200m relay.

All our athletes put in the maximum amount of effort when participating and supported their teammates and friends with gusto from the sidelines when spectating. There were also some standout performances from our athletes, some of which are noted below:
