Prep Sports Round Up 19.09.25

Our U11 and U10 hockey and rugby teams were off-site this week to take part in an exciting array of features.

As we are all too well aware, a fixture day wouldn’t be exciting without some kind of drama. As our intrepid rugby players set off to leave, they were faced with Truro traffic chaos; their later-than-expected departure time had a knock-on effect on games for the afternoon. As usual, however, the children of Truro Prep took it in their stride and arrived full of beans, ready to go out and put on a dazzling display of rugby.

Both teams demonstrated a range of running talent, moving swiftly through the opposing defenders with agility and purpose. The targets for the afternoon changed as the afternoon progressed, moving from focusing on going forward in attack and defence, to getting the ball moving through the team by passing and creating space out wide, away from the tackle area.

Despite some excellent play, the highlight of the afternoon was watching two of our Year 6 boys, who were not playing at the time, run over to a Plymouth College player lying injured on the ground during play. As ever, the compassion and care that shines brightly at Truro School Prep were evident for all to see as they helped him, and we were extremely proud to have witnessed this incredible gesture.

The Year 6 girls also had their first run out of the season at Plymouth Marjon University, playing against Plymouth College, Stover and Mount Kelly in a hockey festival. The girls grew in confidence and strength in each match, linking together passes like they had been playing together all season.

It was also a positive start to the hockey season for our Year 5 team, who showed great teamwork. They developed their attacking skills by passing the ball into space, scoring goals in all of their matches. Poppy had a fantastic afternoon, playing in goal for the very first time. Players of the match, chosen by their opposition, were Coco, Erin and Daisy. Our Year 5 team was unbeaten, winning their matches against Stover and Plymouth College, and drawing with Mount Kelly.

Well done to both our rugby and hockey teams, and thank you to our staff, our opposition and our hosts for what was a fantastic and fun learning experience.
