Kings of Cakes

Senior pupils recently took part in a festive bake-off in their French lessons to celebrate Epiphany, a religious festival that is widely celebrated in France.

As part of the challenge, pupils were tasked with making their own Galette des Rois, the traditional French “King Cake” enjoyed throughout January. A Galette des Rois is traditionally made from flaky puff pastry filled with almond cream and contains a hidden charm, or fève. Whoever finds the fève is crowned King or Queen for the day.

Pupils submitted photographs of their creations to be judged by the French department, who then selected a ‘King’ and ‘Queen’ from the impressive raft of entries.

Congratulations go to Rosie, who was crowned Queen, and Toby, who was named King. Both pupils were presented with French crowns by Miss Magnin and Mrs Le Bihan Murphy.

Well done to all the pupils who took part and produced such delicious and creative bakes.
