Truro School is extremely proud of our unique Cornish heritage and location, and we create every possible opportunity to get our school community off-site to make the most of our setting.
As part of our Wednesday Afternoon Activities, a group of intrepid surfers heads off-site for weekly surf sessions. Split into three groups, pupils and students visit some of the rugged surf beaches of the North Cornish coast. Our Beginners are based at Perranporth, Intermediates at Fistral, while our Competition (advanced) surfers change location for optimal conditions.
Each week, pupils are usually sorted into sub-groups, where instructors then provide more personalised instruction. This develops more independent progress across the term. With warm-ups on the beach completed, instruction is geared towards developing an effective pop-up and catching broken waves in the beginners group, and then more refined techniques as they progress onto green waves in the next groups.
