We love hearing from our Alumni Relations team and finding out all that our recent leavers have been up to. We are delighted to share some of their latest success stories.
Alicia Bray CO23 – Biomedical Science
Alicia is a Biomedical Science student at Royal Holloway, University of London, currently completing a Industrial Placement in the Genetics and Investigative Toxicology Unit at GSK. This experience is strengthening her laboratory and analytical skills while deepening my interest in biomedical research. Beyond the lab, she part of the Leaders in STEM programme at GSK, which supports sixth formers in building a career in STEM. Alicia was also a former lead choreographer for Royal Holloway’s intermediate competitive ballet team (2024-25) and a former dance fitness teacher (2023-24).
Kate Barnes CO24 – Business entrepreneur
Kate is currently an undergraduate in Business, Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Falmouth University, with a passion for building meaningful ventures that make a difference. Kate has already successfully founded An Tresor Co, a sustainable Cornish Gift Box Company that celebrates local producers and eco-conscious gifts. Since completing her A-Levels in 2024, Kate took a gap year before her studies commenced at university. Having aspired to one day create her own business, her gap year provided the perfect opportunity to turn that ambition into reality. From this, An Tresor Co. was established.
With over three years of hands-on experience working in a popular high street retailer, combined with studying business, she’s gained an extensive amount of knowledge and experience which equipped her with the skills to start her own business. Kate is dedicated to demonstrating how you can embrace a sustainable gifting approach, while feeling confident in your choice and maintaining quality gifting.
Katherine Gregory CO20 – Soprano
Katherine is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, where she studied for a BA in Theology and Philosophy. During this time, she sang with Trinity College Choir, with whom she toured internationally and recorded five discs, including Duruflé’s Requiem in Paris with Hyperion/Decca, on which she performed the Pie Jesu. During her studies, she performed many roles, including the Contessa in Le Nozze Di Figaro, Rosalinde in Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, and Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, all with the University Opera Society. She was a scholar on the Pembroke Lieder Scheme, working regularly with pianist Joseph Middleton. She was also awarded first prize in the prestigious Clare College Song Competition. Katherine is a recent recipient of the Eleanor Margaret Scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music, where she is studying for an MA with Susan Waters, Chris Hopkins and James Baillieu. She is sought after as an oratorio soloist, performing frequently with some of the UK’s top choirs and orchestras in prestigious venues.
Charlotte Harvey-Coney CO22 – Aspiring for a career in business
After leaving in 2022, Charlotte moved to Oxford Brookes to begin her degree in Business. During this time she has gained valuable work experiences such as at Savills, and more recently, a 13-month internship with Adobe in presales consultancy and project management.
Elliot Mier CO20 – Investment Management
After graduating from the University of Bath in Economics, Elliot secured an Analyst role at Cambridge Associates, which is an Investment Management firm headquartered in Boston. Elliot helps to cover the analysis of European Private Credit primary fund investments on behalf of large institutional clients such as pension funds, insurance companies and endowments. He is exposed to the dynamic and evolving landscape of Private Credit, and would be happy to connect with any Truro School pupils wishing to learn more about the industry.
Harris Mier CO20 – Design Engineering
Harris very much enjoyed his time at Truro school where he discovered an interest in STEM based subjects, particularly Maths and Physics. Whilst many of the teachers for these subjects were encouraging and inspiring, Harris looks back most fondly on his time studying for his Physics A-Level with Mr Laity and, in particular, Maths A-Level with Mr McCabe.
“Mr McCabe always encouraged us to look beyond the syllabus and this is something I am truly grateful for as the Covid-19 pandemic hit in the later stages of our time in the Sixth Form.”
Harris has since graduated from Imperial College London with a master’s degree in design engineering and is now working as an engineer at Brompton Bicycle. He has the opportunity to design a new and innovative folding bicycle, of which 60,000 a year will be built and shipped around the world from where he works in London.
Jack Piercy CO18 – Land and Environmental Management
Jack has a background in Geology and Surveying and Land/Environmental Management, and is currently on the RICS pathway to becoming a Chartered Mineral Surveyor. He has worked within the mineral estates team at Wardell Armstrong LLP, and is currently working at Bruton Knowles as a Land Rights Officer.
Previously and recently graduated from Camborne School of Mines and University of Exeter with a Masters (MSc) in Surveying and Land/Environmental Management attaining a Distinction grade. Prior to this, Jack spent his undergraduate life at Durham University graduating with a first-class honours in Geology (BSc).
Theo Wood CO24 – Pilot
Since leaving in 2024, Theo has earned his Commercial Pilot’s Licence following intensive training in the UK and Florida with Acron Aviation. He is on track to complete his training in April this year to become a fully qualified airline pilot and has received a conditional job offer from Wizz Air.
We know there are many more Old Truronians out there who are achieving amazing things, and our Alumni Relations team would love to hear from you too! If you have a story to share, please get in touch with the Alumni Relations Officer, Amanda Forde [email protected].
