From Nursery to Sixth – Celia’s Drama Journey

Celia, now in Year 13, is one of Truro School’s most experienced Drama performers. During her time at the school, she has been a key part of many plays, both on and off stage. As Celia completes her final year at Truro School, she is looking forward to a career in Drama and applying for university.

Celia remarks, “Having joined Truro School in the Nursery, I first remember being involved in plays with Mrs Gregory at the Prep. Those early productions inspired me and sparked my love of drama. My brother, a few years older, took part in the senior plays with Mr Oldfield, and I was always inspired by the shows he was involved in.

“Truro School has given me so many opportunities, and I’ve made amazing ‘vertical friendships’ with pupils across all year groups. I’ve been able to explore every aspect of theatre, from performing onstage to working backstage, helping with technical elements, choreography, and directing. I recently directed the Sixth Form production of The Importance of Being Ernest, which was a real highlight for me, along with our performance of Macbeth a few years ago, which I was completely obsessed with.”

Through connections made at Truro School, Celia joined local production company ‘Bodkin Theatre’ over the summer holidays, assisting with costume and production. She has also performed at The Minnack Theatre and had the opportunity to meet Mike Shepherd of Kneehigh Theatre, whom she credits as an inspiration, at a workshop hosted in The Burrell last year. Alongside this, she has also participated in combat workshops hosted by the school Drama department and has credited her growth to teaching staff Mr Oldfield and TJ Randell.

Celia participated in her last major Truro School performance as Petra in The Bubblegum Tree in November, crediting this as an excellent script for her final large-scale school performance. She has also performed in Twelfth Night and Les Misérables over the years.

While she thoroughly enjoys performing, she also loves singing and has performed in numerous school music recitals and concerts.

“The drama programme at Truro School is incredible. I’m taking Drama A-Level, and I recently had my first exam. It was hard work, but it paid off as the audience really loved my performance. I’ve applied to study English at university, and I hope to work in theatre afterwards, whether in performance, writing, or directing.”

Celia’s experience reflects just one of the many opportunities available to students in the Truro School Sixth Form, where creativity, ambition and individuality are actively encouraged, supporting personal, educational and professional growth.

We are confident that Celia will go on to an exciting and fulfilling future, and we look forward to seeing where her passion for drama and theatre takes her next. As she and her peers undertake their mock examinations, we wish them all the very best of luck and every success in this important stage of their Sixth Form journey.
