Fencing National Championships

After intensive zoom training throughout the lockdowns and a prolonged close of season our fencers were ready and eager to get back on the piste and compete at national level when our fencing season reopened last month.

The superb results at the start of the season are testament to the hard work and commitment of the fencers and coaches and we are delighted to see so many podium finishes at the recent British National Championships, with a special mention to Darcy, former student, who secured a gold in the under 20’s seeing off Max Cromie, another former student, into silver. Equally impressive considering she is only in the Upper Sixth was Amy’s outstanding silver in the Under 20 women’s event, along with Lexie who finished 5th, whilst still only in the 5th year. In the Under 17 event, Henry secured an impressive silver, whilst Lexie took to the piste again and claimed bronze.

These outstanding results now see Truro fencers at the top of the GB rankings with Lexie ranked 1st in Great Britain at Under 17 level and 2nd at Under 20. Amy is now ranked 3rd at Under 20 and in the men’s ranking Henry is ranked 3rd at Under 17, followed closely by Sam in 6th; and Ethan is sitting at 9th place at Under 20. These rankings now place our fencers in a strong position going into the next British ranking events and we look forward to the upcoming international selections for the European circuit and congratulate everyone on their amazing achievements so far.
