Chemistry shines at Truro School with our 2025 results setting us apart on a national level. An impressive 26% of our pupils achieved the highest A* grade (compared to just 9% nationally) and 79% achieved A*/A (vs 31% nationally).
Our ALPS score of 1 for A-Level Chemistry (the difference between the actual A-Level grades achieved and the expected grades based on their prior attainment) puts Truro School in the top 5% of providers for this subject nationally and is a reflection of the incredible teaching and support that the Sixth Form at Truro School provides for our students.
This week, Chemistry also took centre stage at one of our popular A-Level Subject Breakfasts. These informal, student-led sessions give Year 11 pupils a taste of what A-Level study really involves. Our Senior Prefect and Subject Prefect teams guided discussions, while our current cohort of chemists shared insights into what makes the subject so rewarding at Truro School.
Choosing A-Levels can be a daunting process for Year 11 pupils, as they balance GCSE studies with decisions about future careers and university pathways. At Truro School, we provide a wide range of opportunities – from our Sixth Form Open Evening to these weekly subject breakfasts – to ensure that every pupil feels supported and confident in making the right choices.
