Celebrating Language

Friday, 26 September, marked the European Day of Languages, and we have been celebrating our global community in the Prep and Senior Schools.

The theme for this year’s European Day of Languages is “languages open hearts and minds,” which highlights the power of languages to connect us, inspire new ideas, and broaden horizons.

At the Prep, our Year 6 pupils led an assembly where many shared the languages they speak, alongside English. From French to Chinese, to Punjabi and British Sign Language, it was fantastic to see our pupils sharing their stories and connecting with their peers.

At the Senior School, our Sixth formers led assemblies, supported by pupils from Spain, Germany, Switzerland, France and Hong Kong, who read texts in their native tongue. We were incredibly proud of our pupils’ confidence and courage throughout the week.

With some delicious themed menus, the celebrations were also supported with quizzes in form time, with questions including how many official languages are there in the European Union, and which alphabet is used in the Bulgarian language*.

We are extremely proud of the diversity we have within our Truro School community and relish the opportunity to hear from our incredible pupils as we share their stories and cultural heritage.

If you would like to find out more about our school, please join us for our Open Morning on Saturday, 4th October 2025. Register your interest HERE.

*There are 24 different languages spoken in the EU, and the Cyrillic alphabet is used in the Bulgarian language.
