As we look forward to our annual Book Week at Truro School Prep in a few weeks, our classrooms have been filled with the magic of storytelling during our much-loved Buddy Reading session.
During Buddy Reading, our older pupils proudly take on the role of reading mentors, sharing favourite tales with children from Reception to Year 3. With enthusiasm and care, they bring stories to life through expressive reading, encouraging younger listeners to imagine, predict, and lose themselves in new literary worlds.
For our youngest pupils, the sessions are a highlight of the week, and a chance to build confidence, curiosity, and a growing love of books in a warm, supportive setting. Reading becomes more than just learning words on a page; it becomes an adventure shared with a friendly face.
The benefits are just as powerful for the older buddies. Acting as role models, they develop leadership, patience, and empathy, discovering the pride that comes from supporting younger learners.
Above all, Buddy Reading is joyful, with smiles, laughter, and animated storytelling filling the room as friendships blossom across year groups. It is a wonderful example of our school community in action, one that nurtures not only strong readers but kind, confident individuals with a lifelong love of learning.
