A Year of Yondr

This week marks one year since Truro School introduced the Yondr system, which requires pupils to place their mobile devices into secure, locked pouches for the duration of the school day. Unlocking stations positioned across the school site allow pupils to access their devices again when the bell rings at 3.50pm.

Miss Mitchell, Deputy Head (Pastoral), has said, “It has been a positive and forward-thinking step in helping our young people regulate their phone use, reconnect with one another, and enjoy the benefits of a school environment centred on real conversation and meaningful interaction. We are grateful for your ongoing support and kindly ask that you continue to encourage your child to bring their Yondr pouch to school each day”.

As per the ‘Positive Behaviour and Values’ policy, being found with a mobile phone not in Yondr and/or using or attempting to use a mobile phone during the school day results in a Level 3 behaviour consequence.

The Yondr system is used around the world by over 1 million students every day. From research carried out by Yondr, they have discovered that “86% saw a positive impact in student safety and wellness, 84% saw an improvement in student engagement in the classroom, 72% saw an improvement in student behaviour, and 68% saw an improvement in academic performance”.
