Mr Silk and his team of intrepid volunteers have continued with their apple antics with a trip to learn the rudiments of apple pressing, thanks to the team at Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm.
Having made chutney and crumbles to sell at the Christmas Fayre, the team took the remaining 50 kilos of apples, picked at Prep and donated by families, to be turned into home-made apple juice. Under expert guidance, our pupils got stuck into the pulping process, before pressing the pulp to make 30 litres of delicious apple juice.
Our Prep community is now able to purchase and sample the juice, which is available from Mr Silk at morning drop off and pick up. Any donations made will also go to ‘Farms for City Children’, a charity set up by author Michael Morpurgo. Serendipitously, some of the apples used were from the very tree planted in the school orchard by Michael Morpurgo himself, an event captured in some of the photographs below.
Well done to all those involved in this adventure, which, alongside raising funds for charity, has created memorable learning opportunities and barrels of joy.
