Forest School

We are proud to have outstanding Forest School provision and facilities at Truro School Nursery, with four distinctive areas on site. Outside of the Reception classroom is the Enchanted Garden, with a storytelling circle and secret woodland walk. The Wild Woods, located outside of the Nursery classrooms, include a fire circle, bamboo tunnel and willow den. There are two further woodland areas also accessible in the Prep grounds, featuring native trees and plants for pupils to enjoy and ample space to learn and play.

Forest School is taught by a specialist teacher, Mrs Stableforth, who is also a fully qualified teacher. She is supported by two fully qualified and highly skilled Forest School Co-ordinators.

Nursery and Reception classes have a weekly session of Forest School, which runs for the duration of a morning or an afternoon. Years 1 and 2 participate in one full afternoon session every other week.

Our fabulous environment lends itself to a multitude of stimulating learning experiences, enabling children to develop skills that complement their indoor classroom activities.

Developing an interest in the Great Outdoors

Forest School, unlike other woodland learning experiences, is based on over 30 years of research and best practice from Scandinavia.

Forest School teaching supports, encourages and inspires the individual’s learning process, allowing the children to learn at their own pace by developing curiosity in the world around them, which feeds back into their learning in the classroom. It also empowers them with a desire to care for each other, the wildlife and environment in which they live.

The Truro School Identity

Our school motto, Esse Quam Videri (to be, rather than to seem to be), captures the essence of our identity and is defined by the 5 C's below. Underpinned by strong Christian principles, we are a caring and inclusive community which values, nurtures and develops each individual.
