Last week saw two fixtures take Truro School Prep teams to Plymouth, with our rugby and hockey squads both testing their skills against local opposition.
On Wednesday 23rd September, our U10 and U11 rugby players headed to Plymouth College to play the hosts, Trinity and Stover, in what was the first competitive outing for most of the teams. With the format focused on development and 23 players across both squads, plenty of learning opportunities were on offer.
The U11s were fabulous at tackling and showed a real “wolfpack” mentality when defending their tryline, running in some wonderful tries, though spacing out in attack and defence is an area to work on. The U10s had plenty of strong runners in attack, with one-on-one defending a target for future training sessions. Plymouth College will visit the Prep School just before half-term, giving the players more time to develop these areas.
The same afternoon, the inaugural mixed U10 and U11 hockey teams took on Maynard School and Plymouth College in a sunny festival at Plymouth Marjons, going from strength to strength as the afternoon progressed, with some lovely interchange through the midfield.
Both teams played convincingly well and scored a high number of goals, leading at one point to Zander being challenged to score through an assist rather than a direct goal. Players of the match, voted by the opposition, were Freddy, Isabella, Finley, Etta, Oscar and Henry.
Many thanks to all the enthusiastic parents and grandparents who made the journey to support, and to Plymouth College for hosting.
