Students and pupils at Truro School welcomed Sir Stephen Bubb (The Gradel Institute of Charity, New College Oxford) and Matthew Kenworthy-Gomes (Cornwall Voluntary Sector Forum) for an engaging talk on the importance of the third sector to the UK economy and possible careers.
The session explored the role of charities, social enterprises and community organisations, highlighting their importance in supporting society and driving positive change. Our pupils and students gained insight into the wide range of careers available, from frontline roles to marketing and leadership, and the many pathways into the sector, including volunteering, apprenticeships and university study.
The session was part of a busy three-day visit for Gradel, set up by Esmé Page to give Sir Stephen a window on the pioneering qualities of the Cornish voluntary sector, including the work of the Cornwall Community Foundation and Cornwall Voluntary Sector Forum. Sir Stephen was interested in Truro School’s own charitable mission and its commitment to support the wider community, not least through the new music centre, which he enjoyed touring.
A huge thank you to Sir Stephen, Matthew, all of the staff and to Esme, who made this informative and valuable session possible.
