Weekly News from Pre-Prep 13.03.26

It has been another busy and exciting week in the Pre-Prep, with plenty of creativity, learning and fun across Early Years and Key Stage 1.

Our Nursery children have been exploring the world of jungle animals in Spanish, learning new words while discovering fascinating creatures. Outdoor play has been a big highlight this week, with lots of digging in the mud kitchen and mixing mud, water and petals to create wonderful natural concoctions. The children have also been busy preparing special Mother’s Day cards, ready for Sunday. In phonics, they have been learning the sounds e, l and h, continuing to build their early reading skills.

In Reception, the week has been full of exciting events. The children enjoyed a Science Activity Morning, where they explored simple investigations and discoveries. There was also great excitement around the Swimming Gala, with pupils showing enthusiasm and confidence in the water. In Drawing Club, the class has been exploring the mummy elephant from the story Peace at Last, thinking about how everyone sometimes needs a little peace and quiet. Inspired by the story, the children have been creating thoughtful Mother’s Day surprises, hoping to give their own mums a well-deserved five minutes of peace!

Year 1 welcomed Reception into their classrooms as part of Science Week, helping them take part in some exciting experiments while also supporting their transition to the next year group. In PE, pupils have been continuing to develop their hand-eye coordination through tennis and learning about the importance of teamwork in games such as football. In the classroom, they have been practising telling the time to the hour and have also been busy creating their own Mother’s Day cards.

In Year 2, pupils have been completing the final drafts of their instruction writing, guiding readers on how to visit their own imaginative islands. They have also been practising for the upcoming cross-country event, showing great determination and perseverance. Under the beautiful blossom of the magnolia tree, they have also been working in pairs on balance bikes and buggies on the netball courts, improving their coordination and teamwork. In art, they have been creating beautiful layered jungle pictures, inspired by French painter Henri Rousseau. To round off the week, the class is looking forward to taking part in Science Week experiments, including testing the parachutes they have designed.

Across the Pre-Prep, it has been a wonderful week of curiosity, creativity and collaboration.
