Farewell Sue Mac

After 20 years of dedicated service as Operations Manager at Truro School Prep, Sue McIntosh is bidding farewell, leaving behind a legacy of care, commitment and countless behind-the-scenes contributions that have meant so much to our community. She joined the Prep in 2004, and her daughter Emily McIntosh CO19 is an Old Truronian.

Sue’s leaving party was a complete surprise and a fitting celebration of just how loved she is. Colleagues, parents, and members of the Friends of Truro School (FTS), all wearing face masks featuring Sue’s face, much to her delight and emotion. Sue was joined by members of the Facilities and Transport Services team and the kitchen team, including her husband, Neil.

Sue was presented with a beautiful cake, a friendship rose, a memory book, a flower subscription, and the proceeds of a cash collection, with many suggesting the funds might go towards a well-earned holiday. There were plenty of tears on the day, from Sue herself and from parents who have valued her kindness and support over the years.

Prep School Parent, Pete, said: “It was a very emotional morning as we said goodbye to Sue. Sue has been at the school for over 20 years, and she is going to be missed immensely. Sue has been there no matter the weather to help our children into and around school. There is no job Sue can’t do! The FTS held a collection for her, and we received donations from all years across both sites, this really does show what we all thought of her.”

Vice-chair of the FTS, Lynette spoke movingly about Sue’s impact, describing her as a real asset to the school: always there for the children, incredibly helpful with FTS events and consistently working quietly behind the scenes. “We will miss her a lot,” she said, a sentiment echoed by many.

Even on the day of her surprise, Sue welcomed the children as she always has. A special moment was captured with Clara from the Pre-Prep, whose mum, Charlotte Le Bihan Murphy, commented, “She adores Sue and will miss her a lot.”

Sue’s warmth, reliability and genuine care have made a lasting difference to Truro School life over the past two decades. She will be greatly missed by staff, pupils and parents alike, and we wish her every happiness in the next chapter.
