Truro School Music Appeal

A Gift that Resonates

Truro School has a long and proud tradition of philanthropy, and the Music Project marks the next exciting chapter. For nearly 150 years, our community has generously supported bursaries, facilities, and opportunities that help young people thrive. At the time of this appeal’s launch, many of you will have seen the Truro School Music Project take shape. Our topping out ceremony was held in June, the crane was removed during the October half term, and the project is now entering an exciting phase where most of the work is happening inside.

The project aligns with Truro School’s rich musical tradition, which delivers around 40 annual concerts and gigs, an annual Summer Festival, individual music lessons for over 250 pupils, and regular notable multi-show performances of major musicals. For over a decade, Cornwall Music Service Trust (CMST) and Truro School have worked hand in hand to make music accessible to all. Now, CMST will take its place at the very heart of our new music centre, strengthening a partnership that has already transformed countless lives.

Together, with your support, we will continue to enable students of every generation, background, and community to experience the joy of music-making, nurturing a thriving musical culture that enriches lives today and builds a stronger, healthier community for tomorrow.

All donations to support this project will be handled with sensitivity and care. We will support them to be made directly to the Truro School Foundation. The Foundation was established in 2016. It is a registered charity (no.1070969) dedicated exclusively to supporting the School.

“I am proud to head a School that champions the transformative power of music and musical education, investing courageously in widening cultural opportunities for the young people of Cornwall.”
Mr Andy Johnson, Head

“Cornwall Music Service Trust (CMST) is a charity providing music teaching, support, and therapy for close to 10,000 children across over 240 schools or settings in Cornwall and we see this facility as incredibly important for music education in Cornwall. We are now in our 10th year of operation and are very excited about the tangible opportunities the Music Project will present, providing an efficient and effective environment to facilitate our work as a charity.”
Gareth Churcher, Head of Service, CMST

The Giving Scale of Support - Eight Ways to Give

The Giving Scale of Support is an invitation for you to be part of the giving of this gift of music. Your support now will enable us to equip and finish the facility to the highest standards. A small number of individuals, including alumni and former parents of Truro School, are already helping in this way, alongside the Cornwall Music Service Trust. At this important time, you have the opportunity to make a gift that will resonate powerfully for the future, a gift that will associate your generosity directly with the joy and opportunity that this project will enable for the future.

“The new music centre is such an incredible achievement. The idea of having a recording studio for pupil use astounds me and is inspiring me to take GCSE music!”
Sam, Year 9

Make Your Mark, Your Way

Gifts of a more creative nature outside of the Giving Scale outlined are also welcome. Generosity has already made possible the creation and resourcing of the building’s dedicated and sound proofed rock and amplified music rehearsal room, and the addition of a balcony with views over the city. If you would like to discuss a contribution (financial or otherwise) that is more bespoke than the Giving Scale, please do reach out. Generosity that can inspire and enable the use and benefit of this facility will be welcome.

All future donors offering that level of generosity will similarly become members of this Club, that will formally be launched after this facility opens in Autumn 2026, with further details of its membership opportunities.

Looking Beyond

The School and Foundation are planning to use this project beyond the creation of the Music Centre as a pathway to widen bursary access to the school and as a platform for a campaign finale at the time of the School’s 150th Anniversary in 2030. That campaign will be designed to effect step change in access to a Truro School education. In a world where the costs of both delivering and also accessing such an education continue to rise, support to protect our School’s community identity and to actively widen it, are commitments in harmony with our Methodist foundation and this project. The School and the Foundation proudly launch this campaign to enhance musical opportunity and as a launchpad for our future work to widen educational access more broadly too.

The 1880 Club, we hope to be instrumental in that journey that will be life-changing for generations of children to come. If you would like to know more about the work of the Foundation, or to support it beyond the scope of the Giving Scale, please do reach out to us.
