Dahl Day 2026 at Truro School Prep

Year 3 had a truly magical day celebrating the wonderful world of Roald Dahl!

Children arrived to find a very grumpy Mrs Trunchbull patrolling the playground, and waves and smiles from the BFG and Sophie on the roundabout. As they approached their classrooms, a spectacular BFG-themed archway welcomed them, complete with dream jars twinkling with fairy lights, miniature houses, dream bunting and, of course, a giant-sized BFG.

As they entered, they journeyed through an enchanted Corridor of Curiosities, discovering props and clues from Roald Dahl’s famous stories including furniture on the ceiling and worm spaghetting, while carefully avoiding the dreaded Chokey and an enormous crocodile along the way!

Throughout the day, the children immersed themselves in a range of wonderful activities. They wrote their own Dream Scrolls, imagining hopes and wishes worthy of the BFG himself, concocted magical potions and created fantastic character spinners inspired by some of Roald Dahl’s most memorable characters.

No Roald Dahl celebration would be complete without a few special treats. Every child went home with a Roald Dahl book, a BFG bookmark and a tiny dream jar to remember the day. They also received one of Willy Wonka’s very own chocolate bars. Excitement filled the air as children eagerly checked their bars to discover whether they were lucky enough to find a Golden Ticket, with winning ticket holders receiving a special prize bookmark.

The smiles, laughter and creativity on display throughout the day made it clear just how much the children enjoyed this magical experience that so enhances their learning.

Roald Dahl himself can best sum up the day: “And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” These days are certainly magical and carefully designed to inspire a love of books and encourage pupils to share their enjoyment of reading with their peers.

A huge thank you must go to the Year 3 team for creating such a wonderful celebration and bringing Roald Dahl’s stories to life. An especially enormous thank you goes to our incredible FTS, who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes creating the stunning archway, displays, resources and decorations that transformed our school into a world of pure imagination. Their hard work, creativity and dedication helped make the day truly scrumdiddlyumptious, and we are so very lucky to have their support.

What a fantastic day filled with dreams, imagination and Roald Dahl magic!
