Year 3 Walk Trelissick

Our final Prep year group headed out to explore the beauty and surroundings of Cornwall, with their trip to Roundwood Quay. During the walk, pupils were tasked with identifying the trees, birds, animals and insects found in this woodland habitat.

Working in pairs, pupils compared fallen leaves to their fact sheets to identify the trees they came from. They found acorns and horse chestnuts on the ground, spotted grey squirrels climbing overhead and listened for the calls of robins in the trees.

With natural features at their fingertips, learning about water systems and erosion, seed dispersion and how the woodland’s resources support the animal and plant life within it were brought vividly to life for our pupils.

The walk also took the children through a 2,000-year-old Iron Age fort, offering a glimpse into how people once lived on this land.

Pupils covered over two miles of the Cornish countryside, enjoying fresh air and sunshine along the way. There was even time to pause after lunch to honour the International World Day of Peace with a minute’s silence, thinking about peace for all the world.
