This week in our Pre-Prep, there has been a wonderful sense of curiosity, creativity and care across all year groups as pupils embraced a wide range of engaging activities.
In Nursery, the warm weather inspired plenty of cooling activities, including a picnic snack enjoyed in the shade, water and ice play. Alongside this, the children have been developing their understanding of sun safety.
As part of their Curious Explorers topic, they have been exploring different foods, and this week sampled lychees. The children discussed how they looked, felt and smelt, using fantastic vocabulary such as “squishy”, “rough” and “bumpy”, with some even suggesting they smelt like doughnuts.
Reception has been busy preparing for their film premiere, using their phonics knowledge to write labels for popcorn to share with their grown-ups. They have also been revisiting all of their sounds and red words as they get ready for an exciting transition into Year 1.
In Year 1, pupils have been taking a hands-on approach to science by harvesting bacteria from their hands. This sparked thoughtful discussions about the importance of thorough handwashing and how easily germs can spread. In literacy, the children have been completing their own stories and developing their understanding of similes to enhance their writing.
Year 2 pupils have enjoyed taking part in a teddy agility obstacle course, showing great enthusiasm and teamwork. In literacy, they have been re-telling and writing the story of The Gingerbread Man, a piece of work they are proud to take with them as they prepare for their move to Year 3.
It has been a fantastic week across the Pre-Prep, full of exploration, creativity and preparation for the next exciting steps in each child’s learning journey.
