Weekly News from Pre-Prep 08.05.26

It has been another busy and exciting week in the Pre-Prep, with pupils exploring emotions, nature, creativity and the environment through a range of engaging activities.

In Drawing Club over the past two weeks, Nursery pupils have been exploring the story of The Colour Monster. The children discussed different feelings and shared strategies to help manage emotions, as well as thinking about ways they can support others with how they feel. Outdoors, the children explored the many colours found in nature and talked about how different colours can influence emotions and feelings.

Reception pupils have been busy developing their literacy skills by writing their own instructions explaining how to make a sandwich. The children worked hard to sequence their ideas clearly and use language appropriate for instructions. During Forest School sessions, pupils discussed ways to protect the environment and explored how plants grow. The children also planted their own radishes and are looking forward to observing their progress over the coming weeks.

In Literacy, Year 1 pupils have continued writing an article documenting the rowing success of Ann Glanville. The children focused on using adjectives to make their writing more vivid and engaging. In Art, pupils enjoyed a walk around the school grounds where they sketched and collected natural objects. Back in the classroom, they added detail to their work using watercolour paints to create beautiful nature-inspired artwork.

Year 2 pupils have been developing their vocabulary skills in Literacy by exploring synonyms for a range of adjectives and verbs, helping to make their writing more varied and descriptive. In Science, the children planted cucumbers in the mini allotment and made predictions about what might happen as the plants grow. They also discussed how to create the best conditions to encourage healthy growth.
