4th Year biology pupils have been studying respiration this week, specifically investigating the factors that affect yeast respiration.
Pupils conducted experiments using yeast and sugar to measure the rate and volume of respiration in relation to temperature. They used four water baths set at different temperatures and set appropriate controls. A key learning focus includes identifying ways to enhance their experimental design.
Afterwards, they appraised the success of the experiment and generated several excellent suggestions for improvements and alternative methods for measuring the volume of carbon dioxide produced.
