Open Morning Celebrates the Truro School Difference

Truro School welcomed over 200 families through its doors on Saturday 3rd October for an Open Morning filled with music, activity and joyful learning, with the new music centre, The Ode, taking its rightful place as the centrepiece and sign-in destination for visiting families.

Guests were amazed by the scale and quality of the build and by what it means for music and the arts, both for pupils and students at Truro School and for the wider community.

Inside The Ode, jazz solos shared the space with DJ decks, rehearsals were underway, and visitors could try a range of musical instruments, just as Year 7 pupils will do as part of the Year 7 Instrumental Scheme.

Families were paired with current pupils and students for guided tours or explored the site independently with a map to all of the activities.

A highlight was the Co-Curricular display in the Upper Quad, complete with a sailing boat and a tent, where families discovered a clubs and activities programme that runs from skateboarding and surfing to wargaming and ceramics, and everything in between.

Sixth Form prefects, staff and pupils were on hand to play games and explain the Trips programme, House Competitions and our unrivalled Outdoor Pursuits department, whose Duke of Edinburgh and Ten Tors offering makes Truro School one of the leaders in the South West.

Elsewhere, every department showcased the best of its subject, with explosions in the chemistry labs, trampolining in the SBA, a printing workshop in the Heseltine Gallery, rehearsals for Jesus Christ Superstar in the Burrell Theatre and granola pot making in the Truro School Cookery School to name but a few. The breadth of the day reflected the strength of both the academic and co-curricular offer at Truro School.

What really stood out was the Truro School Difference, which sets the school apart as the leading academic and co-curricular school in Cornwall. Small class sizes, the number one A-Level results in Cornwall, outstanding pastoral support, a strong bursary and scholarships programme and unique partnerships ranging from Truro Cathedral Choir to Truro Fencing Club all contribute.

Truro School is small enough to ensure that we know every pupil and student in our care but large enough to inspire, challenge and empower them to reach their full potential, whatever that might look like. The Open Morning was a taste of all that and more.

Families who could not attend are warmly invited to a personal tour or a conversation with the Admissions team, who can be reached at [email protected].

Pupils already registered to join in Year 7 are welcome at the upcoming Year 7 Activity Day, which is taking place on Saturday, 7th November 2026.

Thank you to all of the staff who made the morning such a success, to the pupils and students who were excellent ambassadors, and to all of the families who joined us on the day.
