Non-Uniform Day at Prep

Pupils arrived at Truro School Prep this morning buzzing with excitement, keen to show off their non-uniform outfits and swap compliments with friends before the school day began.

As part of our commitment to supporting local charities and causes, Prep joined schools, nurseries and colleges across Cornwall in a collective fundraising initiative for the Children’s Cancer Unit Fund at Royal Cornwall Hospital. Organised by our new Charity Lead, Mrs Cad-Foley, the Non-Uniform Day marked Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and asked for a suggested donation of £1 per child to help raise vital funds for children and families facing cancer treatment here in Cornwall.

Every year, children from across Cornwall spend days, weeks and sometimes months in hospital, away from their friends, schools and the comfort of home, and the Children’s Cancer Unit Fund provides support, comfort and special experiences for these young people and their families during some of the most challenging times of their lives.

Although this is our first year taking part, last year’s county-wide effort enabled the charity to provide VR headsets and music therapy, family events and sibling support, Christmas assistance, bereavement services, essential items for families, and toys, games and activity resources for children.

It was wonderful to see the whole of Prep come together so readily for a cause beyond themselves. It is exactly this instinct, to know what is happening around us, to challenge unfairness where we find it, and to feel empowered to act, that we hope to nurture in every pupil, and today’s response showed that spirit alive and well.
