Truro School Prep was filled with moments of calm and reflection during Mindfulness Week, as pupils across the school took time to focus on their wellbeing.
The week began with a whole-school assembly, supported by a programme of activities designed to help pupils develop simple, positive habits to support their mental and emotional health.
A key strand of the week was the use of mindfulness journals. Introduced in assembly and developed during English lessons, these gave pupils the opportunity to reflect on their thoughts, practise gratitude and explore their feelings in a structured and supportive way. The journals were then shared at home, helping to extend these important conversations beyond the classroom.
Throughout the week, mindfulness was also woven into everyday school life. Pupils enjoyed mindful colouring at playtimes, while elements of mindfulness were incorporated into PE and swimming lessons, encouraging children to become more aware of their breathing, movement and focus.
Year 3 pupils took part in a special Pilates session, introducing them to techniques that promote both physical and mental balance. Spending time outdoors was another important aspect of the week, with pupils taking part in mindfulness walks and working together to prepare and care for planted pots.
Mindfulness Week is just one example of Truro School Prep’s ongoing commitment to nurturing the whole child. By placing wellbeing at the heart of school life, the Prep continues to ensure that pupils are supported not only in their academic journey, but also in developing the confidence, resilience and self-awareness to thrive.
