Laughter and Adventure for Year 4 Camp

Year 4 camp was an absolute triumph, packed full of laughter and just a touch of classic British weather! Fortunately, the rain had impeccable timing, arriving only after the children were safely tucked into their tents.

The excitement began straight away with some energetic warm-up games, before pupils were split into teams. Each team designed their own flag and matching headbands, giving the whole experience a wonderfully ‘Swallows and Amazons’ feel.

We ventured into Forest School, where creativity and teamwork shone through. The children built impressive dens, complete with stick “televisions,” leafy doormats and even pinecone pets. Each team proudly flew their handmade flag outside their woodland hideaway.

Dinner was a real highlight: a delicious BBQ, finished off perfectly with jelly and ice cream. Refuelled and ready, the children went on to create beautiful lanterns, which were later hung around camp, giving the evening a truly magical glow.

Activities continued thick and fast, from Robin Hood-style archery to exciting treasure hunts around the school grounds. And, of course, no Year 4 camp would be complete without the now legendary water fight! Despite a fine drizzle (or perhaps because of it), spirits were high as children gleefully drenched one another, with particular enthusiasm reserved for soaking Mr Morse, much to everyone’s delight!

Once dry and wrapped up warm, we returned to Forest School, where Mr Frewer had prepared a wonderful campfire. There we toasted marshmallows and made delicious s’mores while enjoying the cosy atmosphere. Rev Helen led a joyful singalong, and it’s safe to say Year 4 were in fine voice!

Back at camp, the softly flickering lanterns created a magical setting as Mr Morse read stories to the children, who sipped hot chocolate before bedtime. There was, of course, plenty of excited chatter from the tents, but eventually a peaceful hush fell over camp as everyone drifted off to sleep.

Morning brought another magical moment, as the sun rose over the tents and the cheerful chatter of children filled the air. After carefully packing up (and leaving no trace), we headed off for breakfast butties and a final round of activities.

The children were an absolute credit to themselves throughout the trip. Their enthusiasm, teamwork and sense of adventure made the camp truly special. We all had a wonderful time, and we suspect a few lifelong memories were made along the way!

A huge thanks to Mrs Cadwallader-Foley for this beautiful write-up and to all of the incredible staff who worked so hard to make this such a memorable experience for all.
