Junior Girls’ Boarding Blog

It has been a hard week for them all but they have remained positive and I am so proud of their maturity and resilience! I must extend huge thanks to Mrs Fiol and Mrs Howe and Mrs Chanter and Mrs Kenward, for the support they have shown the girls too; they have been fantastic and I count myself very lucky to have such a dedicated and caring girls’ boarding staff team.

On Saturday morning after a hearty brunch back in the dining hall the girls headed off to the Salle for a fencing taster session. You may already know this but for those of you that don’t, Truro Fencing Club, which is known across the world, train out of the old school gym. And so, with GB fencing coaches on tap, we snapped up the chance for some free boarding taster sessions. The girls kitted up and were quickly fencing; perfecting the on guard position, learning how to move forward and backwards and even participating in bouts.

On Saturday evening, after a number of the girls ventured in to town for supplies that had inevitably dwindled over the course of the week, the girls enjoyed a social evening lead by Mrs Howe. The gathering, quickly dubbed ‘the freedom party’, doubled up as an early birthday celebration for Jess who celebrates her 15th birthday on Monday, and the girls enjoyed Dominoes pizzas (and cookies) together in the common room.

After a lie in and then brunch on Sunday, the girls and Mrs Howe headed off to Perranporth beach for some surfing. Wetsuit clad and with the sun shining they made their way into the sea. Their smiles and laughter said it all!

After a braised beef or pork roast dinner with all the trimmings supper, the girls have been busy finishing off bits of prep, organising their things for tomorrow and stripping their beds. With a full week of lessons ahead the girls are looking forward to engaging and making the most of school life and are gearing up for a busy, studious and fun filled week. Next weekend Mrs Fiol will be back at the helm and we are hoping this beautiful weather continues so that we can all get out and about and enjoy Cornwall in its full glory!
