After their visit to the Hepworth Museum and Garden in St Ives earlier in the year, our Year 6 pupils have been busy designing and making their own carvings during their art lessons. Inspired by the methods used by Barbara Hepworth, who carved many of her sculptures from a single piece of wood or stone, pupils scraped away at their designs and were not allowed to put anything back or model the clay.
As you can see from the finished designs, our creative sculptors also made use of holes, wires and colour as a further homage to Hepworth. Hepworth viewed holes as a point of connection for those viewing her work, allowing them to experience the sculpture from multiple perspectives.
Well done to our creative pupils; you can view these fantastic pieces on display in the foyer of Treliske House.
