Celebrating the Wonder of Reading

Truro School and Truro School Prep were a riot of colours as both sites celebrated World Book Day 2024.

Morning drop-off at Prep was a literary feast for the eyes as characters from favourite books, stories and poems arrived at school.

With new judging categories including ‘The John Muir Award for the Most Sustainable Costume’ and ‘The JK Rowling Award for the Most Magical Costume’, our children certainly used their creativity to pull together some fabulous outfits.

Certificates for the best costumes were handed out in Assembly before lessons began with an extract from our staff members’ favourite books.

Across both sites, Truro School pupils have been rewarded for ‘getting caught reading’ throughout the week. At Prep, it was reading at home in ‘unusual places’, while at the Senior School, pupils were given raffle tickets for reading at breaktimes or while waiting for lessons to begin, for their chance to win a book voucher.

Form Room doors were decorated as favourite books across the Senior School with nods to the likes of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and The Gruffalo. At the same time, a book-themed treasure hunt kept Prep Pupils busy in their English lessons and break times.

A huge thanks to all of the staff, pupils, students and their families who made the day such a memorable one. By sharing our love of books throughout the school, we hope to have inspired a greater love of reading in others.

In the words of Henry Miller, “A book is not only a friend, it makes friends for you. When you have possessed a book with mind and spirit, you are enriched. But when you pass it on, you are enriched threefold.”
